St Anne’s School pupils had a sweet return to no longer having to socially distance with a visit of the Island ice cream van.
Headteacher Martin Winward had the idea of giving an ice cream cone to every pupil at lunchtime to celebrate the school being able to function normally again.
Wendy Dupont and colleague Aleena served up more than 130 vanilla ice cream cones with coloured sprinkles to pupils and staff.
Children went back to school on 8th June but strict new rules were introduced in order to keep pupil ‘bubbles’ apart and prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
Staggered starting times were introduced and social distancing was required at break and lunch times and children were not allowed to move classrooms.
The move into Phase 5 of the Exit from Lockdown saw those requirements relaxed.
One difference is that from now until the end of the summer term, children do not have to wear their school uniforms. Many pupils have grown out of items of uniform and it has not been possible to repurchase them.
