(Free Zoom event Wednesday, 19th May 6pm-7pm)
Being Northern Irish is everything! Novelist Tish Delaney will be talking to Rachel Abbott about her debut ‘Before My Actual Heart Breaks’ and how she recreates in the book her Northern Irish upbringing in rural Co. Tyrone at the height of The Troubles.
Growing up at the height of the Troubles – the sectarian war between Protestant Unionists and Catholic Nationalists – life was about having fun and getting an education and going out to dancehalls that could be bombed because you still wanted to be able to meet someone and get married one day.
Everyone, Catholics and Protestants, were at exactly the same carry on – they just wanted to have a normal life too! In any conflict, there are only ever a handful of extremists, everyone else is just trying to get the groceries home safe.
Join Tish and Rachel in this enjoyable conversation of writing a first novel, of life during The Troubles, and capturing the essence of people in your life because you never want them to fade.
