Alderney States Member David Earl has resigned from the Island’s government.
Mr Earl was elected onto the States of Alderney in November 2018 for a four year term which was due to run until November 2022.
He was chairman of the Finance Committee, vice chairman of the Policy and Finance Committee and served on the Building and Development and Control Committee. He was also a member of the beleaguered Tourism and Economic Development Committee and of the Good Governance Group.
No reason has been offered yet for his resignation.
In a statement States of Alderney President William Tate said:
‘I have today received a letter from David Earl informing me of his intention to resign from the States of Alderney with immediate effect.
‘Mr Earl was the Chair of the Finance Committee and vice Chair of the Policy and Finance Committee.
‘He was also a member of a number of action groups set up by the Policy and Finance Committee to address specific areas.
‘I am sure that the community and his fellow Members will wish to join with me in thanking him for his contribution during his time in Office.
‘The States will now put in place the necessary arrangements for the by-election which is required to be held within three months of the resignation.’
