Annie Jr captivated their Alderney audience

Alderney residents have enjoyed their first theatre outing since lockdown –thanks to the stellar efforts of the Island’s youngsters.

Last weekend they took to the stage with their production of Annie Jr the Musical, the classic Depression New York tale of the spirited orphan who wins the heart of America’s richest man, billionaire ‘Daddy’ Warbucks.

A true Island production, the musical involved some 18 youngsters onstage and an equal number of children and adults in backstage roles. A slew of local businesses and individuals offered practical support in other forms.

Both evenings and a matinee performance were sell-outs and the show garnered huge praise from those who saw it.

The success of the production, which was supported by Alderney Theatre Group, came despite the fact that two weeks before the curtain was due to go up at the end of March, it had to be cancelled because of the Coronavirus outbreak.

In the interim one of the original cast members left the Island and new performers were welcomed into the line up. In last three weeks and two days since restrictions were lifted to allow rehearsals to start again, parts were re-allocated and re-learned.

The following photographs by David Nash demonstrate what a shining performance it was.
