Push the boat out!

2 min read

This summer the Alderney Sailing Club would like to see more Alderney residents take up sailing and, subject to good weather and sea conditions, the club will happily introduce anybody interested to the fun and challenge of sailing in Alderney waters on Sunday 13 June.

Just turn up at Braye Beach/Dougie Quay at 10:00am on Sunday 13 June. Wear suitable clothes. The club will provide the boats, basic training, safety gear and life jackets. (Minimum age: 6 years).

The Club’s racing season is starting on 6 June with the Ortac Race (start time 12:30), followed by a race to Guernsey on 12 June (start time 12:00).

The popular Round the Island Race takes place on 19th June (09:40) when the club is expecting several Guernsey yachts to take part. The racing event that day concludes with the traditional Fitting-Out Supper at the Sailing Club.

More races are planned on July 10th to Guernsey, another Round the Island Race on 18th July, and the Casquets Race on 25th July.

However, highlight of the racing season is the most important sailing event – the Alderney Regatta which takes place over the weekend of 28th & 29th August and ends with the race to Guernsey. At present all events are restricted to Bailiwick sailors, but if Covid regulations are being relaxed, yachts from Jersey and the UK may also be able to take part.

The last race of the season will be a race to Guernsey on 4th September. All events are subject to weather and sea conditions. For updates please check the Sailing Club website
